Before you apply
Preparing a strong application significantly increases your chances of getting hired. Here is what to prepare:
1. A polished resume
Use the AI Resume Builder to create a clean, ATS-friendly resume. Highlight your teaching experience, certifications, and relevant skills. Keep it to 1-2 pages.
2. A tailored cover letter
Use the AI Cover Letter tool to generate a customized letter for each application. Reference the specific school and position, and explain why you are a great fit. Generic cover letters are easily spotted and often ignored.
3. Supporting documents
Have the following ready in PDF format:
- TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate
- University degree
- Passport information page
- Reference letters (if available)
- Recent photo (required by some countries)
During the application
- Follow the application instructions exactly — some schools require documents emailed directly.
- Double-check for typos before sending.
- Use a professional email address.
- Respond promptly if the employer contacts you for an interview.
After applying
Give the employer 1-2 weeks to respond. If you have not heard back, a polite follow-up email is acceptable. Meanwhile, keep applying to other positions — do not put all your hopes on one application.
