Benefits

CETP is an all-woman owned organization. Begun in 1990, we are the oldest and most significant organization providing ESL teachers in Hungary and have the strong backing of the Hungarian government. We currently serve nearly 100 public and parochial schools in cities and villages in all regions of the country, including Budapest.

We receive no government or school funding, so as mentioned above, it is you, our lovely teachers, whom we ask to support the many services we provide. Our program fee for the initial academic year is $2500 for all Budapest schools as well as all high schools throughout the country. Elementary school placements are $1900 in the countryside.

This is a program fee and not a fee just to place you. We are a full-service organization that is dedicated to making your time in Hungary memorable in the very best of ways. The national teacher’s net salary (currently equivalent to a bit over $1400.00 monthly) is sufficient for living very well, especially since as a part of your salary package you will also receive a furnished private apartment with most utilities paid as well as national medical coverage. We will be happy to discuss all of this with you to ensure you are fully aware of your benefits—and pitfalls if any.

Besides the above, CETP supports you in many other ways:

  • Providing all documentation to work and live in Hungary (including a waiver which would otherwise require official translation of all your documents—and cost you hundreds of dollars and months to complete, even for EU citizens.)
  • Placement in a quality public or parochial elementary or high school.
  • A net monthly salary equating to about $1400 USD (fluctu
  • A private, fully furnished apartment to include paid utilities
  • Paid medical coverage
  • Waiving of Hungarian income tax, which amounts to over $2500 annually
  • Pick-up upon arrival in Budapest and transportation to your new home.
  • A weeklong orientation in Hungary, to include basic Hungarian lessons, teaching methodology tips, the ins and outs of Hungarian schools, and Hungarian history and cultural information.
  • The support of our wonderful Hungarian director, Hajni (pronounced \ˈhɒjni\) Vancsik. You will never be alone in a crisis, be it losing your passport, getting on the wrong train, or needing to visit the doctor!
  • A contact teacher at your schools who will assist with your local needs.
  • An active CETP teachers’ group with whom to talk and travel.
  • Retention of an apartment with most utilities paid over the summer months with no need to teach if you stay at your school for additional years.
  • A Facebook page for teaching tips, travel plans, etc.

In order to teach through CETP, you must be a native English speaker, hold a bachelor’s degree, and have earned a TEFL certificate by the time you arrive in Hungary. Hungary allows us to place only citizens of countries with whom it has teaching reciprocity agreements: the US, Canada, the UK and members of the EU.
